Let’s keep it real: nobody wakes up excited to read a Cookie Policy.

But because you deserve transparency (and because laws exist), here’s exactly how we use cookies and similar tech inside the Protagonist app — without the corporate bedtime-story energy.

Cookies are tiny data files stored on your device.

In mobile apps, “cookies” often show up as things like:

  • session storage
  • device identifiers

Basically: little bits of data that help the app not forget who you are every five seconds.

These keep the app from falling apart:

  • Security: Stops bad actors from being bad actors
  • Preferences: Remembers your settings
  • Session Management: Ensures the app doesn’t reset every tap

If you disable these, the app will behave like it took a long nap and forgot everything. You wouldn’t like that.

These tell us what’s working, what’s confusing, and what’s on fire:

  • Usage patterns
  • Performance monitoring
  • Feature usage data

This helps us improve Protagonist — not stalk you.

Functional Technologies

These make the app feel smooth and context-aware:

  • Goal data: Some progress is stored locally
  • AI context: Keeps your coaching conversations consistent
  • Notification preferences: Remembers what you said yes/no to

These are the behind-the-scenes helpers for your hero’s journey.

3. Third-Party Technologies

We rely on a few trusted partners who may use their own tech:

  • AWS Cognito (login/authentication)
  • Stripe (payment processing)
  • Analytics providers (makes sure we know what’s happening inside the app, not outside your life)

We don’t let shady companies anywhere near your data.

4. Your Choices

Inside the app settings, you can manage some privacy + data preferences.

For essential cookies, though:

If you turn them off, the app simply will not work.

(Think: trying to drive a car after removing the engine.)

5. Data Retention

Here’s how long stuff sticks around:

  • Session data: Cleared when you log out
  • Local storage: Stays until you delete the app or clear app data
  • Server-side data: Retained according to our Privacy Policy

(Which you should absolutely read. It’s surprisingly entertaining.)

6. Updates to This Policy

If we change anything about how cookies or app storage work, we’ll update it here and/or notify you in the app.

No sneaky edits. No quiet fine print.
